5 Lessons Yoga Taught Me Off the Mat
Six years on the mat have taught me more about life than any sport ever did.“I’m not flexible.” “It’s too slow, my mind can’t handle it.”I hear these excuses a lot, and every time I want to say: I felt all of this too. In fact, I still do.But the beauty of yoga, of turning up on your mat consistently, isn’t just to lose weight or improve your muscles; it’s to show up for your body, regardless of your day. Our mind and body are more intertwined than we think, and every time you show up, you leave...
Podcasts You Need to Listen to in 2026
As a journalist, it is quite a feat to wake up every morning and check the news, almost wincing at the amount of destruction and horror going on in the world at the moment. It’s safe to say it is a challenge to move on with your day. Regardless of what the news has in store for us, ultimately we can’t control it. While it is important to stay informed, we also need to cut ourselves some slack. As someone who listens to more podcasts than anyone I know (and a great variety at that), I filtered dow...
Millennial Optimism or Nostalgia? Either Way, We Miss Being Imperfect
If you have been keeping up with current events in the digital world (yes, that’s TikTok), you’ve probably seen videos popping up on your For You page about ‘millennial optimism’. And frankly, are we all just losing it a bit? Now, if you know me, you’ll know I love a bit of nostalgia. But when I started watching these videos of millennials on social media showing pictures of ‘simpler’ times, or videos people compiled of celebrities who were ‘made for the millennial era’, it reminded me of one of...

Early Years Literacy
In the UK, a recent figure highlights that the rate of parents reading to their children plunged by 30% since 2019.
This comes as global rates of literacy have plummeted among children from lower socio-economic backgrounds. These reports also highlight the long-term effects of the Covid-19 Pandemic.
But hope isn’t all lost. Our correspondent Samuel Lord visits the shortlisted young writers’ awards to see how creative writing and reading is still inspiring our future generation.

The emotional toll (booth) of not knowing what you’re supposed to do
It’s the first time you’ve paused. You’ve taken a second to stop. Look around. Look behind and see the sunset with the most beautiful, golden hue which warms up your face. It’s a cold, crisp evening and you’ve just realised you don’t know what the next step is going to look like. Is it going to be just the same, only with a brand new bag ready for your first day in the office? Or will it be a quick stretch before a run, all part of your prep to complete a half-marathon? Is it going to be a slowe...
Matcha Supply Shortage TV Package
London matcha bars are being faced with climbing prices this Autumn for their main ingredient after Japan suffered an intense heatwave over the Summer.
Japan, where the green tea leaves originate from, has reduced its supply by 25 per cent from last year due to smaller harvests. This shortage often means increased prices for matcha-drinkers.
Anika Sharma reports on how business owners are faring amidst a wave of demand with shallow supply.

Happy New (academic) Year! How to make this September Feel Like a Fresh Start
Crunch! No, that wasn’t my hip clicking for the millionth time today! It was the sound of my adidas trainer stepping onto a maple green leaf. Autumn has arrived! To be completely frank I am quite shocked myself. Summer has been a dream and I feel I have just been woken up by an old-timey alarm clock that doesn’t have a snooze button. Anyone else?As a kid, I secretly loved September (I know, so uncool). But I had my reasons! My mum would take me to the town centre and we would pick my new schoolb...
My favourite familiar voices: Podcasts you need to listen to in 2025
I scramble my eggs and make my espresso in the morning. I try to write an email that has been circulating in my mind for the past week. I try to relax and unwind so I can get a good amount of sleep before a busy day. All of these activities have, in my opinion, been accomplished and even elevated by listening to podcasts. It might sound silly, but I needed the sound of a historian, celebrity, politician or just a guy who wanted to pick up a mic, to make me productive. Hey, don’t ask me about the...
Before your train arrives: talking to my 18-year-old self
Train announcements, trains departing, trains arriving, trains delayed. This was all foreign to me as a freshly turned 18-year-old trying to figure out how to blend into the crowd of commuters who seemed well adjusted to the chaos of train stations. I loved it, being an adult (or pretending to be), having multiple places to call home. But at the same time, this frightened me. Exactly what were these three years going to provide me? Joy? Love? Fun? Loneliness? Terrible anxiety? Well, my dear girl...
The Brutalist: An Inspiring Journey from Persecution to Persecution
By Anika Sharma, Third Year, BA History The three hour and thirty-minute showtime combined with a synopsis describing the film as an architect entering America for the first time, might lead one to think that this film lacks originality and is drenched in clichés. But with the unease, tension, anger and hope we feel with the incredible László Tóth (Adrien Brody), it would be a huge disservice to describe this film as inauthentic. Brady Corbet’s excellent illustration of the struggle for an unsat...
Exhibition Review: Concealed/Reveal- Disabled, D/deaf, and neurodivergent artists driving creativity — The Bristorian
By Anika Sharma, Second-Year HistoryThe Concealed/Reveal exhibition at the Bristol Museum aimed to entice viewers from the start whereby paintings by Goya and Hockney were introduced, alongside a description of how their paintings contributed to society’s understanding of disabilities in everyday life. Upon entering this exhibition, I expected there to be a representation of how disabled artists are viewed and perceived. But it provided more. It offered an insight into how one might celebrate di...
